Publisher's decorative brown cloth with bevelled boards, gilt titles, gilt canoeist motif to spine and silver & gilt map motif of the river to upper board, reproduced in blind to lower board. Moire endpapers. Cover cloth rubbed and a little bruised to edge with minor wear at spine tips. Very minor light foxing to textblock edge and to tissue guard otherwise contents very clean; no annotation or inscriptions. A handsome copy of this history of the Mississippi, with a first-hand account of the discovery of the source.
