Modern full brown calf with five raised bands, maroon and black leather labels, gilt titles and decoration to spine and blind ruling to boards. New endpapers. Minor scuffing to boards; a little scattered foxing, mainly to prelims. Stamp of South Shields Master Mariners' Asylum to title page, map and final leaf; no annotation or inscriptions. First edition of this early work on Arctic voyages and exploration, from the time of the Vikings up to publication. Scarce.
