Translation of the 1930 French children's book "Patapoufs et Filifers" in which the Double brothers visit the underground land of the plump cheerful Fattypuffs and the skinny irritable Thinifers, who are enemies on the brink of open warfare. Maurois' political fantasy was widely viewed by contemporaries as a comedy and frequently features on lists of top books for children but can also be viewed as a parable predicting the Second World War and the occupation of France by the Germans. This edition features the justly popular original illustrations. Rare - at time of writing no other copies of this First English Edition could be found for sale.
