Walter Scott Stuart Lyon (1886-1915) was a notable war poet from North Berwick, who studied at Balliol College, Oxford prior to a career as a Scottish Advocate. He joined the 9th Battalion Royal Scots and was killed in fierce shellfire at Potijze Wood near the Menin Road; he has no known grave and is named on the Menin Gate Memorial. This is his only published work.
