Publishers’ red cloth with black titles to spine and quadruple black-line border to upper board. Spine sunned and rubbed at tips; pale stains to lower board. Inner front hinge cracked but holding. Endpapers and textblock edge toned & foxed; foxing to prelims and pp 15-22 chipped to margin (affecting extreme edge only, well away from text). Annotation in pencil to rear pastedown.
First hand account of fighting in France by a surgeon of the Royal Medical Corps with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers from August 1914, with further experiences of life as a prisoner in German camps at Crefeld, Minden, Sennelager and Guetersloh and the “nightmare winter” of 1914-15. Scarce.
