Detailed report on the manslaughter if Patrick M’Connor by fellow miner Thomas Thompson on Thursday October 19th 1837 at the St Hilda Pit in South Shields, including the verdict of the inquest stating that the pitmen quarrelled about a tram, and came to blows before Thompson struck M’Connor in the chest with his pick. The sensationalist tone of the piece provides a good example of how facts were presented at the time to the reading public.
