FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp [14], 353. 8 plates including frontispiece self-portrait by the Author, and 5 full-page maps. Original brown cloth with tricolour stripes, and black titles to spine and upper board. Cover cloth lightly scuffed and soiled with creases to spine tips and bruises to corners. Address label to front pastedown and small label adjacent printed “1819”. Very faint foxing, mainly to prelims; inner rear hinge cracked and a little shaken but firmly holding. A Good copy overall with contents Very Good.
First hand account of action in France during the Great War including the retreat from Mons and the battles on the Somme and at Passchendaele, by a French officer on the English staff. Introduction by Winston Churchill. Scarce.
