FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp 89. Original jade green cloth with gilt titles to spine in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket with photograph by Tony Armstrong-Jones. Cover cloth lightly rubbed and top edge a little dusty; faint foxing to endpapers otherwise contents clean and fresh. Jacket toned, mainly to rear white panel, and repaired at head and tail of spine; reverse edges skilfully covered with cream adhesive tape. Overall a Near Fine copy in Very Good jacket.

The follow-up to Osborne’s runaway success “Look Back in Anger”, “The Entertainer” starred Laurence Olivier as failing music-hall artist Archie Rice; the play used the entertainment scene as a metaphor for the changing world political situation and the fading British Empire.
