FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp [2], vi, 236. Frontispiece map; facsimile signatures of former Coal-Owners and Merchants of Newcastle upon Tyne to rear. Maroon pebbled cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board and blind decoration to boards. Pale primrose yellow endpapers. Edges rubbed with minor wear at corners and spine tips; a slightly shaken copy with weak inner front hinge. Bookplate to ffep with ownership inscription above in ink; endpapers lightly soiled and toned otherwise contents clean. Overall a Very Good copy.
History of the early coal mining industry in North East England, with much of biographical and genealogical interest relating to the “coalowners and merchants who laid the foundations of this great industry” (Preface). Scarce.
