Quarter green morocco with patterned paper covered boards, bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Printed Note to Subscribers from Robert and Moira Gibbings loosely inserted. Minor toning to endpapers and top edge of boards; spine lightly sunned and rubbed to tips. Sir James Runcieman Sutherland's copy, signed by the Author, and with an 8-line original humorous verse to Sutherland and his wife Helen to front free endaper, dated 1932.
Sutherland was a noted English scholar and critic and Professor at Birkbeck College and University College, London. The first book in the new Golden Cockerel type expressly designed for the Press by Eric Gill.
