INSCRIBED PRESENTATION COPY. FIRST EDITION. Limited to no more than 300 copies this is one of Crawhall’s principal works. Octavo, pp. 124. Crawhall’s inimitable hand-coloured woodcuts throughout, many full-page. Standard paper copy in half vellum over bevelled grey paper-covered boards; gilt line decoration to vellum edges. Black titles & decoration to spine and lower board; coloured city crest woodcut with date to upper board. Heavy handmade paper with top edge stained red, fore and bottom edge uncut. Boards lightly stained with wear to lower edge; a little very minor foxing. Warmly inscribed to family member ‘Walter J. Chapman, with Jo’s Crawhall’s Kind Regards & Best Wishes, Oct 21st 1885’. Crawhall was the cousin of noted Northumbrian naturalist Abel Chapman.
