Majority of leaves unopened.

Hugh, Lord Lonsdale (1857-1944) is perhaps best known for his sporting interests and hedonistic lifestyle. Master of the Quorn and Cottesmore hunts, Chairman of Arsenal Football Club, boxing sponsor and originator of the Lonsdale belt, crack shot and Steward of the Jockey Club, he worked his way through a substantial part of his inherited fortune. Known as the Yellow Earl for his partiality for that colour, the AA owes its distinctive livery to him as its founder and president. During the First World War Hugh formed the Lonsdales 11th Border Regiment and was a recruiting officer for men and horses during the conflict.
The year of publication saw Britain at war with France, the Dutch Republic and Spain, so there was plenty of interest in military matters and Militia Lists were essential additions to the libraries of gentlemen throughout the land. This lists the officers by county and includes their rank and date of commission. Scarce, particularly in the original boards.
