Small quarto (approx 18 cm x 12), pp 120, [18] advertisements. 30 numbered photographic illustrations including 27 full-page plates, portraits of James Hall and Lord Armstrong and Dress Picture of the Ship to title page. Printed Donations slip bound-in. Original pictorial green cloth with titles in black to upper board and advertisements to rear. Cover cloth soiled with wear at corners and spine tips; a slightly shaken copy with weak inner hinges but holding. Ownership inscription to front pastedown otherwise contents clean. Good.
History of the training ship for homeless and destitute boys at North Shields, founded by MP James Hall in 1868. Though no publication date is stated it can easily be worked out by reference to the introduction which states foundation was “38 years ago”. Rare - Copac locates just 3 copies at UK holdings.
