SIGNED by the surveyor. Revised edition with corrections to 1888 where alterations have occurred from the Sea to Scotswood since the original survey of 1875. Single sheet, approximately 101 cm x 34 cm showing the Tyne with depth soundings in feet and scale of 80 chains to a mile. Very faintly creased from rolling otherwise a clean bright copy. Signature in black ink of Philip J Messent to lower left corner, dated 1889.
Attractive chart of the tidal portion of the River Tyne, showing railways, collieries and works along the banks. Philip John Messent (1830-1897) was the Engineer to the River Tyne commissioners and spent much of his career improving the waterway, including the construction of the Tyne piers and lighthouses.
