First Edition. Octavo, pp. x, [2], 245, [1]. 10 numbered and captioned duotone photographic plates; numerous tables within text. Bottle green cloth with gilt titles to spine and blind-stamped foliate decoration to boards. Cover cloth lightly rubbed to edge with creases to spine tips. Endpapers unevenly toned, with inscription to ffep: “With the publishers compliments” and ownership inscription to verso, Stamp of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to title page. A little scattered foxing, mainly to prelims and text-block edge, otherwise contents clean. Overall a Very Good copy.
 
Thesis submitted to the University of Edinburgh in 1889, for which the Author received a Gold Medal. Scarce.
