With an original leaf from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer printed on vellum at the Merrymount Press bound in. Bound in grey cloth; with scarlet morocco spine label with titles in gilt; steel grey endpapers. Housed in a matching grey card and cloth slipcase. Fine in a Near Fine slipcase.
History of the competing proposals for the textual revision of the Book of Common Prayer, with extensive archival research into the notable printers who entered, Camrbidge University Press, Oxford University Press, Bruce Rogers, and the Merrymount Press. The chosen entry was that printed and designed by D. B. Updike at the Merrymount Press, elegantly printed in Dutch Jansen Typeface, the book went on to be known as Merrymount’s finest work. Illustrated with facsimiles of the specimen page proposals and an original vellum leaf (p.227-228) from the D. B. Updike edition. Necessarily rare.
