Facsimile Reprint with Introduction. Small quarto, pp. 62. Brown quarter calf with gilt titles to spine and brown cloth boards. Spine a little scuffed and boards lightly soiled with minor wear to corners. Scattered light foxing, mainly to endpapers; no annotation or inscriptions. A Very Good copy.
Faithful reproduction of the 1613 angling classic, with the addition of an Introduction giving bibliographical and biographical details of the work and its author. The pastoral poem comprising 151 verses each of 8 lines is the earliest English poetical treatise on fishing and was based upon the Author’s own experiences of angling at Pucklechurch, his hometown in Gloucestershire. Posthumously published with only his initials to identify the writer, Stationers Hall determined in the early nineteenth century that Dennys was the author. An extract is quoted in the first chapter of Izaak Walton’s “Compleat Angler” of 1653.
