Large octavo, 4 vols., pp. xv, [1], 253, [1]; iv, 180; iv, 223, [1]; 321, [1]; iv, 5-321, [1]. Complete with 132 colour illustrated plates, each with guard leaf to each. Bound in the publisher’s bottle green cloth blocked in blind arabesque pattern with a gilt moth centrepiece ornament to upper boards and gilt spine titles. Minor wear to cloth at spine-tips. Some sporadic foxing mainly to indexes. An ink stamp and signature of W. H. Burns [1872–1890] of Clayton Hall, Manchester to front paste-down of vol. 1. A Very Good set.
 
Important work of Victorian lepidopterology in the striking original green cloth, with the plates containing nearly 2,000 exquisitely coloured specimens. Francis Orpen Morris (1810-1893) was a pioneering "parson-naturalist", anti-vivisectionist, and early advocate for conservation who successfully campaigned for a nature conservation act.
