Bound in quarter brown leather and royal blue cloth over boards, blocked in gilt to upper board with an engraving by Simon Brett; pale blue illustrated map endpapers, top edge gilt, blue placemarker ribbon. Housed in a brown paper covered slipcase. Slipcase shows very light surface scuffs. A Fine copy in a Near Fine slipcase.
 
A handsomely bound edition of Mommsen’s monumental work for which he received the 1902 Nobel Prize in Literature. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery.
