Crowley, Aleister.
Tannhauser.

Publisher: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co Ltd, London;
Date of Publication: 1902
Stock Code: 5861

FIRST EDITION, one of only 500 copies. Quarto pp 142, [2] catalogue. Quarter white linen with paper title label to spine and indigo paper-covered boards. Printed compliments slip from the Author loosely inserted. Spine lightly soiled and boards partially sunned, with bumps and wear to edges and corners. Title label toned with minor loss to edge. Inner hinges cracked but firm; endpapers toned; scattered light foxing. No annotation or inscriptions.

Play based upon Richard Wagner’s “Tannhauser”, written whilst Crowley was living in Mexico and experimenting with ceremonial magic in the style of John Dee. Scarce, particularly with the Author’s compliments slip which (since they were laid-in rather than tipped-in) most copies likely do not retain.
