To Be Sold... All the Good Snow [Maritime Broadside].
Publisher: Printed for R Gisburne, Newcastle upon Tyne;
Date of Publication: 1843
Stock Code: 6676
Broadside approx 45 x 27.5 cm advertising the 3 day sale of maritime supplies and boats at Herrings of Newcastle. Single sheet with headings printed in bold type and underlined; inventory below in 4 columns. Engraved ship vignette above titles. Creases from historic folding and lightly toned & foxed with a little offsetting. Inscribed list in ink to rear recording numbers and names (presumably a note of the sums raised at the auction and the purchasers). A Very Good example.
The sale included the Good Snow 278 ton ship built 1839, registered at Lloyds with cargo, which could be viewed at Willington Quay before the sale. A Good Snow ship was a twin masted square rigged vessel, and the inventory included sails, carpenter’s and boatswain’s stores and all the cabin equipment such as candlesticks and a fog horn. Unsurprisingly unrecorded. Rare.
