Previously unpublished travel account by Julian Huxley’s grandfather Thomas Henry Huxley, written during the late 1840s and 1850. Huxley was a British biologist sailing as Assistant Surgeon on the Rattlesnake on an exploratory voyage around Australia and New Guinea; Huxley studied jellyfish, portuguese man-of-war and molluscs amongst other specimens, and posted scientific articles back to England for publication,papers which made his reputation as a marine biologist and led to his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1851.
