Notable Scottish Trials series. Oscar Slater was the victim of one of the worst miscarriages of justice in Scottish legal history, wrongly convicted in 1909 on the basis of circumstantial evidence, and sentenced to death for the murder of Marion Gilchrist, which was commuted to hard labour on appeal. This title was influential in convincing many that the conviction was unjust, and after a lengthy campaign by writers and journalists (including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), Slater was freed having served twenty years at Peterhead.
