FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. iv, 140. Decorative initial letters for each poem. Publishers’ bottle green cloth with bevelled boards, gilt titles and decoration to spine, and double border in blind to boards. Cover cloth lightly scuffed and soiled, with minor wear to corners and spine tips. Endpapers soiled, with ownership inscriptions to front paste-down and ffep, dated 1872 and 1887 respectively. Light foxing, a little heavier to prelims and final leaves. A Good copy.
 
The fifth collection of poems by the Northumbrian Pitman Poet (1832-1903), including the “The Hartley Calamity” based upon the experiences of men trapped underground in the Hartley Colliery Disaster of 1862, in which 204 men and boys were killed. Rare.
