Five satirical booklets relating to William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898), known to his supporters as the “Grand Old Man” (and to his detractors as “God’s Only Mistake”!). They relate to the period of his second premiership, during which the First Boer War was fought, the Irish Land Act passed and the franchise extended in the 1884 Reform Act, which gave the vote to all adult male householders.
