Publishers’ airforce blue cloth with gilt titles to spine and red-and-white printed paper onlay to upper board; housed in a custom-made grey cloth-covered slipcase. Together with the publishers’ prospectus, pp. 8; including full-page illustration in colour; in printed grey card wraps. Clean and crisp with no annotation or inscriptions. Prospectus covers very slightly creased. A Fine copy in like slipcase with Near Fine Prospectus.
The comprehensive study of the war work of Official War Artist Eric Ravilious (1903-42), who died on active service during the Second World War. Ravilious’ duties took him around Britain to airfields, military bases and ports, and his iconic illustrations reflect the varying experiences of life during the period, from HMS Ark Royal in Action, Lysander aircraft in the Snow and the Home Security Control Room, to views of chalk hill-figures glimpsed from a train journey, and an al-fresco tea for two.
