SECOND EDITION corrected and enlarged (the first edition was published in 1682). Octavo, pp. [16], 590. 16 engraved plates including licence leaf opposite title page. Full contemporary calf with 4 raised bands; panels with foliate corners to boards. Spine lightly creased with joints starting and wear at tips; minor loss to surface of each board and minor wear to corners. Scattered foxing, soiling and corner creasing; chip to front paste-down; ownership inscription dated 1690 to licence leaf. A Good copy.
Thomas Gibson (1647-1722) was a Doctor of Medicine, Honorary Fellow of the College of Physicians and Physician General to the British Army. His work was based upon that of many earlier writers and ran for at least 8 editions, describing the individual parts of the body from head to foot. A good copy in a contemporary binding.
