FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. xv, [1], 922. Frontispiece and 4 large folding maps/plans as called for, plus over 90 illustrations within text. Publishers’ bottle green cloth with gilt titles and gilt vignette of the Malcolm Monument to spine, and gilt town crest to upper board. All edges sprinkled red. Cover cloth scuffed with minor damp-stains to rippled spine; light wear to spine tips, and corners bruised. 2 plans slightly creased & mis-folded. A little scattered foxing, almost exclusively confined to endpapers, otherwise contents clean. A Very Good copy.
Comprehensive history of the town and district in South-West Scotland, by father and son John and Robert Hyslop, respectively President of the Eskdale and Liddesdale Archaeological Society and JP, and Editor of the transactions of the Sunderland Antiquarian Society.
