Letters of Thomas Knyvett of Ashwellthorpe in Norfolk, acquired by the British Museum and printed here for the first time. Knyvett was a squire who inherited his estate in 1618; two years later he married Katherine Burgh of Gainsborough, and the letters are all from Thomas to his wife, revealing family ties, legal issues, meetings with eminent contemporaries and domestic life, which abruptly ended with the outbreak of hostilities in the English Civil War. An important insight into the situation in the provinces and the capital during the reign of Charles I. Scarce.
