FIRST PRINTING, of as few as 120 copies. Octavo, pp. xi, 141. With bold woodcuts throughout by Crawhall. In the original publishers’ quarter fawn cloth and grey paper over boards, illustrated lower board and black titles and woodcut device to upper board. Black spine titles. Boards lightly soiled, very minor wear to corners, mild scattered foxing and toning, mainly to endpapers. A tight, secure, square copy in the original fragile paper over boards, leaves generally bright and clean, and free of annotations or inscriptions, woodcuts crisp and bold.
Fantastic collection of North East songs and ballads in the Geordie and Northumbrian dialect, including “The Keel Row” and “The Collier’s Rant”, illustrated throughout with Crawhall’s artfully naive, vernacular woodcuts. With a subscribers list to fore including Crawhall’s publisher Andrew Tuer.
