FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. xx, 426. With an engraved folding plan of the Cabul Cantonment and 4 additional lithographic portrait plates by Lowes Dickonson not called for. Bound in olive green half calf over marbled paper covered boards; 5 raised spine bands, gilt floral corner and centre ornaments to spine compartments, maroon morocco spine label with gilt titles. Small spilt (3cm) starting at top of upper board joint, rubbed to edges. Contents secure, clean, and free of inscriptions or annotations. A Very Good copy.
 
Written in captivity whilst Eyre and his family were imprisoned by Akbar Khan during the First Anglo-Afghan War. Eyre wrote the manuscript over his nine month ordeal with it was smuggled out and published the year following his release.
