Exceedingly comprehensive work on the power and provision of equipment for coal mining including ventilation, haulage, pumping, gears and winding engines by Cornelius McLeod Percy (1846-1903), the Principal of Wigan Mining College. Percy wrote extensively on the subject of mining, and had a long career in the Wigan Coal and Iron Company before devoting himself to technical education. This work was posthumously completed by his son Frank Percy and close colleague George H. Winstanley.
