SECOND EDITION. Octavo, pp [8], 156. 10 plates including frontispiece with tissue guard of The Shooting Pony. Original tan cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board, and gilt horse and groom vignette to upper board; a.e.g. Black endpapers. Spine toned and lower board stained and creased; a shaken copy with inner front hinge split but just holding. Ownership inscription to reverse of frontis in pencil; no annotation. A little scattered foxing and toning; tissue guard corner creased. Overall a Good copy. A revised edition of “Ponies: Past and Present” published in 1900, with the addition of a chapter on the Height of Horses and the relations of Height to Utility, and of notes on Galloways, Highland Ponies and Arabs, with special reference to the prominent part played by Eastern stock in laying the foundation for modern racehorse breeding.
