Le Carre’s 2017 novel was written, in his own words “to make the case for Europe” in the wake of the 2016 referendum. The plot has Peter Guillam, now in retirement, narrating his experiences with George Smiley in “The Spy Who Came In from the Cold” making the book both a prequel and sequel to Le Carre’s best know work.
