Complete record of the players in the famed tour of the West Indies, an almost entirely new side who set sail for the Caribbean on December 8th 1959. In their four-month tour they won a series in the West Indies for the very first time, making a historic win for the side; Trueman took more Wicket Tests than any other England bowler to tour the West Indies. The list of players comprises: May, Cowdrey, Allen, Andrew, Barrington, Dexter, Greenhough, Illingworth, Moss, Pullar, Smith, Statham, Subba Row, Swetman and Trueman. Despite playing for rival teams at a county level, Yorkshire’s Fred Trueman and Lancashire’s Brian Statham formed one of Test cricket’s most successful bowling partnerships; “Fiery Fred” Trueman is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest bowlers in the entire history of the sport, while team captain Peter May is regarded as one of the post-war era’s finest batsmen. Trueman’s Yorkshire team-mate Ray Illingworth was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year for 1960 along with Surrey’s Ken Barrington, who was the very first batsman to make hundreds at all six of the traditional Test Grounds in England. A historic team indeed.
