First edition. Large octavo (approx. 27 cm x 21 cm) pp. 287, [1]. Complete with 52 plates in collotype (mainly 4 images per plate, two full-page plates in colour) and 41 figures in the text. Publishers green buckram with gilt titles to spine in unclipped printed dust-jacket. Cover cloth slightly toned to edge, and a little creased at head of spine. Jacket toned, particularly to spine, with small loss to spine tips and corners, and damp-stain at head of spine. Armorial bookplate of Romanian royal Princesse Jean Callimachi (1880-1940) to front paste-down; slight damp-stain top edge of front free endpaper A very good copy in like dust-jacket.
 
A study of religious icons discovered in Cyprus, with chapters by Rupert Gunnis and Tamara Talbot Rice. Contents include an examination of Cypriot painting, iconography and techniques as well as legends and aspects of medieval life, and a detailed account of the icons and what they represent. Scarce, especially so in the original dust-jacket. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery.
