FIRST EDITION, one of only 32 large paper copies, of a total of 600 copies printed. Royal octavo, pp. xxxvi, 243, [1]. Engraved frontispiece portrait. Bound in full maroon morocco with gilt fillet and floral dentelle frames to boards, gilt armourial medallion to centre of boards bearing arms of surgeon and antiquary Herbert Norman Evans (-1877); 5 raised spine bands with fleurons to spine compartments; gilt dentelles to inner board; gilt gauffered edges. With Hayday binders stamp to ffep verso. Morocco has some polish residue and is lightly rubbed to joints and edges. Lacking title-page; some light scattered foxing to frontis and endpapers else clean and bright and free of ownership inscriptions or annotation; with the armorial bookplate of the a member of the Mewburn Family of Acomb House, Northumberland, to ffep. A Very Good copy. Etymology and derivation of the Northern dialect with many colourful examples of usage. Brockett’s glossary was reprinted twice more in the nineteenth century but the first printing is scarce, much more so one of the 32 large paper copies.
