Octavo, pp., 92, plus 9 images to 8 tissue-guarded Collotype facsimile plates, and 9 letterpress facsimiles within text. Publishers’ taupe buckram with printed paper label to spine, and pale blue paper-covered boards with printed paper label to upper board; top edge gilt. Boards slightly soiled; small damp-stain to head of spine; a slightly shaken copy with rear inner hinge cracked but firmly holding. From the library of C. R. Ashbee with his pictorial rebus bookplate to front pastedown; printed catalogue description of the book to rear pastedown. A little scattered light foxing, mainly to prelims. A Very Good copy overall.
Scarce title on the modern revival of printing fine books beautifully as works of art, with bibliographies including those of the Daniel Press, Kelmscott Press, Essex House Press and Ricardi Press. Original owner Charles Robert Ashbee (1863-1942) the architect and designer, was a luminary of the Arts and Crafts movement and an influential figure in the world of printing, setting up the Essex House Press which is featured in this text.
