FIRST EDITION. Square landscape small quarto, pp. 240. Illustrated throughout including 24 full-page colour plates. Publishers’ black cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board, and ribbon placemarker, in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Upper corners bumped otherwise clean and bright, with no annotation or inscriptions. Jacket lightly surface scuffed, and a little creased to edge with partial price label to rear. A Very Good copy in like jacket. Study of the work of George Petrie, the painter, historian and antiquarian whose work was so influential in the perception of Ireland and the Irish during the nineteenth century. Published to coincide with an exhibition of the same name at the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery and later the National Gallery of Ireland.
