Engraved frontispiece of “Scarborough from the Beach”, decorative initial letters and 2 tailpiece vignettes to “Memoirs”. Contemporary red cloth; titled in gilt to black leather spine label. Signed and numbered by the author, ‘J. Cole’ to limitation leaf. Covers surface soiled; spine toned and creased; bruising to edges; upper joint split 6 cm but firmly holding. Frontispiece and adjacent leaves foxed; otherwise contents clean and bright. Author’s signature in ink to limitation leaf p.[4]. Contents very good in good binding.
John Cole’s biography of the historian Thomas Hinderwell (1744-1825), best known for his 1798 “History of Scarborough”, together with collected short prose works by Hinderwell.
