Undated, presumed First Edition. 12 mo bound in sixes, pp. 139, [1], [10] catalogue. 6 lithographic plates including frontispiece; decorative tail-pieces. Full purple cloth with gilt titles to spine and decoration in blind to both boards; primrose yellow endpapers. Cloth lightly toned and sunned, particularly to spine, with wear to spine tips and corners, and small split to head of upper joint (approx 2 cm). Scattered light foxing; light toning to plates; ownership inscription at head of Chapter I in ink, dated 1848. A very good copy.
Text suitable for respectable Sunday reading, with themes of temperance, redemption and reformation, written as a memoir set in New England. Scarce both commercially and in institutional holdings around the world.
