A series of biographies of Biblical women by a Baptist minister and prominent advocate for religious freedom in England. The biographies within are characterful, eloquent, and punctuated with zealous proclamations. Includes biographies of the Virgin Mary, Eve, Ruth, the Queen of Sheba, Lydia, and Oprah. The ‘essay on what Christianity has done for women’ is partly organised by nation, and comprises an imperialistic but interesting sketch on the condition of indigenous women from North America, to Africa, to New Zealand.
