The first book in Wolfe’s Soldier duology, which tells the story of an ancient Greek mercenary named Latro who cannot remember his past life and must endeavour to return to his home and family. The novel was awarded the Locus Award in 1987, and was nominated for a Nebula and a World Fantasy Award in the same year.
