Prize binding of full polished scarlet calf by Relfe Brothers; spine on five bands, ornamented in gilt to compartments, titled to chocolate morocco spine label; armorial badge of King Edward VI School, East Retford in gilt to upper board within border of gilt rolls; rolls in gilt to edges of boards, continuing to dentelles; all edges gilt; marbled end-papers. Prize bookplate inscribed to one ‘Oliver Thompson’ dating 1908 to front paste-down. Very light sunning to spine continuing to edges of boards. Otherwise a clean, bright and fresh copy. Near-fine. An excellent copy of a superbly presented series of Greek myths written for the author’s children. Comprises retellings of the stories of Perseus, Theseus, and the Argonauts. Relfe Brothers were a celebrated fine bindery, recognised for their prize bindings. £150.00
