Prize binding in full polished calf; spine on five bands, gilt ornaments to compartments, titled in gilt to black leather spine label; presentation badge in gilt to upper board within double-fillet gilt border, and rolls in blind; gilt rolls to edges of boards; gilt dentelles; all edges gilt; marbled end-papers. Presented to one ‘Alice Ward’ by the Congregational Union of England and Wales in 1893. Very slight scuffs to boards. Contents clean and neat with very occasional spots of light toning. Near-fine.
An excellent prize copy of a work on the short-lived Separatist wing of Congregationalism. Henry Barrow, John Greenwood, and John Penry all broke away from the Church of England, and were either exiled or executed in 1593.
