A finely bound copy of a work on the personality of Satan, written in response to the Clifton Excommunication of 1874-6. In 1874, Flavel Cook evangelical vicar of Christ Church, Clifton, barred a parishioner following a dispute over the personality of Satan and the reality of Hell. The excommunication produced both legal and theological controversy. This work was one of the few Evangelical defences of Cook.
