First edition. Tall octavo, pp., xv, [1], 26. With ten colour plates, of which nine are studies of birds with tissue guards and one is a double-page map of the Dene in 1865 and 1930; plus five monochrome photographic plates. Original bottle green cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board. Minor wear at spine tips and corners; with some light staining to upper board, and rubbed ink marks to lower board. A touch of occasional foxing, with the tissue guard to the Goshawk plate creased. A very good copy with no annotation or inscriptions. An attractive and scarce book celebrating Jesmond Dene and its ornithology. Held in fond regard by the city’s residents, the Dene is the nature oasis of Newcastle upon Tyne, watered by the Ouse Burn. £85.00
