The first edition of two novellas by the celebrated Anglo-Irish novelist Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849). Harrington is an autobiography of a ‘recovering anti-semite’, which draws comparison between the discrimination of Jews and Irish Catholics. Ormond is an anti-Jacobite novel which follows the path of the titular protagonist Harry Ormond, an Irishman who must choose between loyalty to revolutionary Ireland or the United Kingdom. From the library of Colin Campbell of Colgrain and Camis Eskan, a Scottish gentleman and merchant who owned significant holdings in the West Indian sugar trade, and consequently the transatlantic slave trade.
