Publisher: T. & T. Clark, 38 George Street, Edinburgh;
Date of Publication: 1929
Stock Code: 15099

First edition (we locate no earlier). Octavo, pp., xiv, 77, [1]. Publisher’s original blue cloth, titled in gilt to spine. Corners lightly bumped and rubbed, joints and hinges strong, very slight wear to cloth, gilt bright. Very light toning, previous owner’s inscription to front-free end-paper, else internally clean. A very good copy.

A scarce theological study by an eminent Bible scholar. Schonfield (1901-1988) wrote widely on Biblical translation and interpretation. This was his first original work, published two years after his first substantial publication, a translation of St. Matthew’s Gospel.
