First British edition, first printing of 1500 copies only. The contents of the 1912 American publication of the same title were substantially different. Duodecimo, pp., vii, [1] blank verso, 223, [1] blank verso. Publisher’s original navy-blue buckram, gilt-stamped design by Thomas Sturge Moore to spine and upper board; all edges untrimmed, title-page and half-title unopened. Corners slightly bumped and rubbed, spine slightly dulled, cloth and gilt otherwise bright, binding strong and square. Minor toning to edges of contents but otherwise clean. A very good copy.

The first British edition of Yeats’ collected essays. The New York 1912 edition and this British 1919 edition differ substantially, ‘Certain Noble Plays for Japan' is substituted in place of 'Thought on Lady Gregory's Translations'.
